Great Tips To Looking Your Best In Your Maternity Clothes

Tip #1: Stick to Clothing Styles That You Normally Wear Don't settle for clothes you don't feel comfortable in. Only spend money on things you feel beautiful in. The trick is to stick with the same type of clothing that you normally wear so you can feel beautiful, confident, and comfortable. If you love to wear loud, vibrant colors you won't feel as beautiful as you normally do if you are dressed in mellow pastels or neutral shades. Don't sacrifice your sense of style for something completely different.

Tip #2: If you have to choose 1 item to splurge on, it should be maternity pants. Even the best maternity top won't make you feel like a million bucks if your pants make you look bad in all the wrong places. Find maternity pants that are high quality and fit your curves. There are some really great pants out there that are comfortable, stylish, and flattering. Maternity pants, like bras, get a lot of use, so don't settle for pants that you have to constantly adjust to fit your body or stay up.

Belly bands are also a great alternative. Belly bands are an elastic-like band of fabric that you wear over the top unbuttoned pants to allow you to extend the life of your normal jeans during pregnancy. Simply wear a long shirt to cover your band and people will assume you are wearing a layered shirt if it shows.

Tip #3: Find transitional pieces for your wardrobe. There is a time in every pregnancy where you start to outgrow your typical clothing items, but aren't quite ready for regular maternity wear. My girl friends and I call this our "frumpy" stage. Avoid feeling less-than-stellar by purchasing a few outfits that are a size or two larger than you would normally wear. You will still look great, but won't have to wear such a restricting and tight wardrobe. These pieces will work perfectly for after the baby is born too.

Don't hide your curves. Show them off. Nothing can make a pregnant woman look larger than she is than wearing an oversized, boxy shirt. Accentuate your style by showing your baby bump off. Wear clothing that fits your form. A quick and easy way to give your tunic or baggy shirts some dimension is to add a belt above your belly. This will highlight a thin area, and still show off your cute belly at the same time.

Tip #4: Dark colors Slim Pregnant Women Too As a general rule dark colors, like black and navy, have a slimming affect. This holds true for pregnant women as well. Wear a dark blouse or sweater, and bring in more color with a scarf or splash of jewelry.

Remember to layer. When you are pregnant, wearing clothing layers can really come in handy during those times when you feel like you are in a sauna and your family and friends feel like they are in a blizzard. Wear jackets and cardigans that can easily be removed or put on, depending on your fluctuating body temperature.

Essentials Needed For My First Nursery

Don’t let the magic of having a baby diminish because you’re stressing out about getting everything in place for when your newborn arrives. This is a wonderful time, and in all honesty there are only a few essentials that you need to get in place for the big day, a lot of other things can be purchased afterwards. So what do you need in place for your first nursery?

A Cot

This is vital, and it’s vital that you get the right type of cot with the right type of mattress. Your baby’s comfort and safety is paramount here, so spend a little time researching the right types of cots. You can spend anything between £70 and £700 for a cot, so be sure to have a budget in mind and stick to it.

Safety is the first thing to consider. All cots should carry the British Standards Institutions (BSI) number BS EN 716:2008. This means that all cots must comply with their safety standards. The next thing you need to consider is size. There are ‘standard-sized’ and ‘continental-sized’ cots and mattresses, so it’s advised to buy the same sized mattress and cot, otherwise the two won’t fit. If you want to buy one that converts into a toddler’s bed then this will save you money in the long run.

Sheets and Blankets

You’ll also need to purchase some cot sheets, blankets and wraps. You need to be careful when using blankets as you don’t want to smother your baby. Unfortunately, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and cot death is still prevalent, but the risk can be minimised if you ensure that your baby always sleeps on their back, their face is always uncovered and always make sure the blanket you use is tucked in securely and only comes up to the baby’s waist.

Clothes and Nappies

Newborns tend to live in babygrows or all-in-one sleep suits, so it’s important to buy a few of these, maybe 4 or 5. You’ll need a few as your baby will likely make a mess regularly, so have some spare for when he or she needs changing. Also consider buying a couple of vests for your baby to wear underneath if it’s pretty cold. If it’s extremely cold, be sure to buy a cardigan or a jumper for them to wear over the top as well.

It’s also essential to buy nappies. A newborn will likely need to be changed 10 to 12 times a day, so you need to buy enough to keep you going for a few days or a week initially for when the baby arrives. It’s up to you whether you want to use reusable or disposable nappies. There are pros and cons for both, but if you’re on a budget, then choosing reusable nappies will save you a lot of money in the long run.

Bathing

Whilst you can always bath your baby in a sink or washing up bowl, some parents choose to buy them their own baby bath or a newborn bath support. This will make their bathing experience a lot more enjoyable, and in some ways more hygienic too. Be sure to have a change table within your nursery too, as this will make bathing and changing a great deal easier. Also consider the types of toiletries you’ll need; choose gentle and basic cleaning products such as nappy wipe as well as a good nappy rash cream. You’ll also need cotton wool balls and cotton buds as well.

Storage and Space

Your nursery will also need plenty of space to store toys and clothes. Whilst this isn’t an essential for your newborn, it will certainly help you keep the room tidy and uncluttered, creating a calming and soothing feel for the room. As your child grows older, he or she can tidy away their toys and clothes using this storage space.

Mobiles Hung Over Cot and Changing Table

Finally, your baby will always need stimulation, especially in their early years. This will form the building blocks for their own development, so getting the baby interacting with bright colours, noises and moving objects will help immensely.

Five Getting Pregnant Tips

Getting pregnant is not as easy as people may think. There are numerous variable that all have to be in place in order for conception to occur. The following are five getting pregnant tips that have helped many couples conceive.

1) Track ovulation with a fertility calendar or a fertility kit: This is one among the most important getting pregnant tips – the time of ovulation plays an important role in deciding the best duration of the month for conceiving. Note your basal body temperature (temperature taken just after you get out of bed) regularly, and note the spikes in the chart. Basal body temperature records are utilized to determine when you
are ovulating, and if the length of the post-ovulatory phase can sustain a pregnancy. A fertility kit that is available in the market tracks the production of LH, a hormone that is produced in excess a couple of days before ovulation. That, too, is a trustworthy tool that you can use while you are trying to conceive.

2) Have regular sex, and enjoy it! The process of baby-making is certainly not to be mechanized – have as much fun with your partner as you can, for a happy mental state is one that both you and your partner will most definitely need. Most doctors suggest sex thrice a week, for optimizing the chances of conception. It is definitely one of those getting pregnant tips that few have any complaints about.

3) Try the conventional ‘missionary’ position during copulation: Many dismiss it as an old wives’ tale, but the fact is, this is one of those getting pregnant tips that you could do well to follow. Scientifically, the man-on-top position does not defy gravity in the way most others do, and is thus one of those which could in fact aid in the sperm reaching the egg sooner. There are higher chances of the sperm swimming to the fallopian tubes in this position, rather than in other options wherein there is always a chance of the sperm leaking out.

4) Cool underwear clothing for men: This is one of those extremely significant getting pregnant tips, especially if you have been in the blind about this all this while. Extreme heat can destroy sperm, so make sure you avoid hot baths and whirlpools, and those long sessions in the sauna. Once destroyed, sperm takes up to three months to regenerate, so to increase your chances of having a baby, make sure you allow enough air around the testicles. Wear boxer shorts as opposed to briefs, as it allows more space for the testicles to hang loose and away from the body.

Low Back Pain During Pregnancy - It Happens.

Lower back pain during pregnancy is inevitable. Most women experience it at some stage or another during their pregnancy, so it’s even more important that that proper attention is given to the changes that a pregnant woman feels. Once the cause of the pain is understood, it can make it less stressful and easier to deal with as simply knowing the ‘what’ and ‘why’ will help to alleviate many of the stresses and enable the pregnancy to be enjoyed worry free.

Causes

Pregnant women usually suffer from lower back pain because the hormone called Progesterone, which is responsible for the implantation of the embryo and gestation. This leads to the softening of the ligament and disks of the back. This then gives way to the reduction of the support that the upper body needs; thus resulting in cramping of the muscles in your lower back.

Another hormone that causes lower back pain is Relaxin. This hormone helps on the labor and delivery of the woman. This hormone relaxes the pelvis joints as to let the baby pass through the birth canal with sufficient space. Yet, Relaxin may cause the other joints to inflame and ache, which causes the joints in the body not to function properly.

Weight is another factor in lower back pain in pregnant women. Extra pounds will be added because of the baby that you are carrying inside you, the added water, and other nutrients that the baby needs to develop properly. As your weight increases, you will then try to balance yourself, which causes a great pressure towards the spine. This then causes the spine to become weak.

NOTE: Always remember that you need to seek proper medical guidance to determine cause of pain and most appropriate treatment methods for you

Tips

• Avoid standing for a long time. If, in case, there are circumstances that you need to stand for long hours, find something like a box that will take some of the strain through having a foot elevated on it.
• Practice proper posture upon standing.
• Perform daily exercises that are suitable for pregnant women. Pelvic tilt is one of the exercises that many suggest. Walking is also fine.
• While sitting, place a pillow behind your back.
• During the night, do not forget to place a pillow between your legs. The mattress you sleep on should be comfortable and firm enough to support your back properly. (Doesn’t necessarily mean you need a super firm mattress)
• You might want to use maternity pillows. These pillows are specifically used to lessen the strain on your back.
• Only wear flat foot wears as not to lose balance and not to exert too much pressure on your back.
• Don’t act like superwoman! Do not lift heavy things. This will trigger the spine, which might cause more pain.
• If you are to do any lifting then always remember to bed your legs rather than bending your back.
• Apply warm compress to areas of back where the pain is felt in order to obtain some relief from the pain.
• Take it easy! I’m not saying stop and don’t do anything, I’m saying don’t engage in too many activities that may add further burden and stress to the lower back pain you already feel.

Pregnancy is one of the greatest gifts in life that women get to experience so it should be an enjoyable one and lower back pain should not stop the many great memories that can be created during this special time.

Qualities To Look For In A Babysitter

A babysitter is a person hired by a family to look after their children, especially in their absence. Hiring a babysitter is a common practice in many US households, but there are still a few parents who have concerns utilizing babysitting services with full confidence. In particular, it is difficult for the parents to decide whether or not the babysitter they have hired lives up to their expectations.

In this article, we will take a look at some of the qualities that a good babysitter should possess. Watching for these qualities in a babysitter when hiring, will help to ensure that you choose the best babysitter for your child.

Reliability and trustworthiness:
As you will be leaving the babysitter with your children, house, and valuables, you want her to be reliable and trustworthy. These essential qualities in a babysitter can be difficult to ascertain based on the external appearance alone. Therefore, it is advisable to check the babysitter’s references. Talk with people whom the babysitter has sat with before, and ask them about the conduct and personality of the sitter. This will help in giving you a clear picture of what kind of babysitter they are, helping you feel more comfortable and secure in the care your child will be receiving.

Enthusiastic about childcare:
Another factor to consider is the level of interest the babysitter has in caring for and nurturing children. As most babysitters are young high school/college students, who generally opt for babysitting as a part-time job to earn pocket money, it can be difficult to find people who are truly enthusiastic about this job. So, while hiring, you should make sure that the sitter likes children, enjoys being around them, loves to take care of them and will also be open to your methods of parenting. Hiring a sitter trained in first aid or CPR is an added advantage, as she will be equipped to handle emergency situations in a better fashion than someone who does not have such training.

Punctuality and dedication to work:
Though a babysitter has limited duties and is hired for a short period of time, she is expected to be punctual and dedicated to her work. Moreover, as babysitting services are often utilized in cases with short notice, i.e., having to attend an unexpected meeting or event, the babysitters are expected to arrive on time and perform their duties as specified. Checking with the babysitters’ references regarding punctuality will give you a good idea of whether or not she is someone who runs on time.

Ability to interact with children:
Not all children are alike or have common traits. Some are flexible, some are fearful and some may be feisty. A good babysitter should be able to identify your child’s personality, likes and dislikes, and within a short period of time develop a good rapport/relationship with them. She should also be able to come up with innovative ideas to entertain children and thus interact with them more easily. Be sure to look for a sitter who will interact well with your children.

Should match up with your personal preferences:
In addition to the above, you should give some thought to your personal preferences. Some may prefer a babysitter who is good at education, some may look for a sitter who is active and athletic, and some parents want someone who is going to be very caring and nurturing. So, depending upon your personal preferences you should choose a babysitter who will make you comfortable when they are around your children.

Hiring a babysitter from a reputable referral agency is advisable for parents as they should be able to provide you with babysitters who have already undergone a thorough screening process and necessary background checks. Utilizing the services of a referral agency will relieve you of the burden of conducting interviews, background checks, and checking references, thereby saving you a lot of time.

Strollers For Toddlers And Big Kids

Many parents find that carrying the child until they are able to walk is preferred. As the child is able to get around on their own having a stroller can be beneficial. While the older child is able to walk along with parents to some extent, longer excursions are too much for them and they need to rest. A sturdy built, rugged stroller can give the child the comfort they need for longer walks.

Make sure that when purchasing a stroller the child will have plenty of room. The seat should be wide enough to not pinch the child's hips or thighs. Also make sure that there are seatbelts in the stroller to hold the child when they are riding in it. Many parents find it advantageous to make sure the canopy is ample and wide enough to block sun from getting in the chld's eyes.

One may find that they require a number of different strollers for different purposes. An umbrella stroller is not only lightweight but also tends to be able to navigate crowded spaces and stores with ease. Car seat stroller frames allow the child to be moved from the car to the stroller without ever needing to be removed from the car seat. These strollers allow parents to move the sleeping baby without disturbing it. The car seat snaps into a secure frame, and off you go.

There are also the standard strollers that tend to be a bit more expensive but have ample features for the on the go family. These strollers typically have comfortable, added seats and a holster system to hold the child securely in the stroller. These strollers also have the ability for the child to sit upright, recline or lay down entirely. One can even obtain a stroller in this category that can face forward, backward, or both.

No matter what type of stroller one chooses for their needs, shop around and get a feel for what the market has to offer. Find a unit with a cup holder, a snack tray, and even a place to store toys and gear for the child. One may also choose a stroller that includes insect netting and a rain blocker. Whatever the choice one is sure to get a stroller that will work for them and their toddler.

Parenting Tips - How to Instill Good Eating Habits

Many parents wonder how to instill good eating habits in their children and when is it most appropriate to begin.

The sooner eating habits are created, the better. Otherwise parents risk spoiling their babies and experiencing serious feeding difficulties later on.

Habits can be created towards the approach of the baby’s first birthday. This is when basics can be thought. As the child grows older, feeding will be more fun and more diversified. Thus, an early start is advisable.

Good Feeding Habits at the Age of 12 Months
This is the age when toddlers start making walking attempts. The child has so much to explore and discover that eating turn to be something boring. At this age, toddlers are prone to losing interest in food.

To feed a toddler at this age, it is important to get something that will divert the child’s attention away from food. A large colorful picture is one such item.

A child that is learning how to walk needs energy. A year-old toddler gets tired quickly. Eating five or six times per day is mandatory. To make it easier, have small meals prepared for the child. In case the toddler demands more food, you can add some. Too much food might look intimidating, forcing the toddler to refuse eating.

Refrain from giving the toddler biscuits, juices and other types of snacks that can be consumed in motion. Make food more nutritious rather than adding such inappropriate quick meals.

Let the toddler decide how much food is enough. Refrain from forcing the child to eat. It might be a good idea to get the toddler used to eating together with other family members. This is how children will get acquainted with the social etiquette of family meals.

Good Feeding Habits at the Age of 18 Months
At the age of 18 months, your baby will need smaller amounts of food than during the first year. The growth process will slow down, making the calorie need smaller.

This is the age at which the child could become very capricious in terms of eating. Never force the toddler to finish up the entire meal.

A child at this age can eat nearly the same things as other family members. Make the portions smaller and refrain from adding spices. Toddlers might select a favorite food, demanding to eat solely that for the weeks to come.

Refrain from using food as a type of award. It should be a routine rather than something that the toddler does to please you.

Limit the intake of juices, since these contain too much sugar. Give the child water and milk instead.

Let the toddler attempt eating alone. Naturally, this will result in mess but you will be giving your child a chance to learn how to be independent. Give the toddler some freedom but do not tolerate games and artistic attempts involving food. If the child is playing or throwing food around, it is no longer hungry.

Good Feeding Habits for Two-Year Old Children
Two-year olds might be very picky in terms of food.

As the child grows, it will be observing you and trying to mimic your behavior and actions. You can serve as an example in terms of instilling good eating habits and rooting out the bad ones.

Growth slows down even more at the age of 2. This means your child will need less food than you think. The child may begin demanding specific types of food served at certain hours. Do not yield in to such demands. Asking your child about specific food preferences will only make it more difficult for you.

A two-year old should already be used to eating at the table with other family members. Letting the child eat during playtime or while it is watching TV will encourage poor eating habits later on in life.

What Should You Pack for Your Baby's First Holiday?

The prospect of going away with your newborn should be exciting and fun, and if you’re well prepared and organised it will be. Whilst you may be worried and even a little scared at the thought of taking your baby away, you don’t want this to ruin or overshadow a memorable holiday for your new family. Packing the essentials for your baby will ensure that you can relax and enjoy your holiday experience, so what sort of things do you need to pack?

First of all, for those who are going abroad, don’t forget your baby’s passport. Since 2008, it became law that all children must carry their own passports, even newborns. Passports for children cost just over £30 and are valid for up to 5 years. In this sense, you’ll also need to figure out whether or not you’ll need a visa for the country you are visiting. Check with your tour operator or the embassy of where you’re visiting to know the exact type of visa you’ll need.

As a side note, if you’re considering on travelling abroad, you won’t be able to fly anywhere until your baby is six weeks old, depending on which airline you choose to fly with. The first six weeks of your baby’s life are incredibly important, so ensuring they are safe and well looked after is essential. It is therefore advised not to travel in these early stages, which is good because you can use this time to thoroughly prepare for your holiday. Make sure your child has all the necessary vaccinations as well. Whilst this won’t be something that you need to pack, it is once again vitally important to consider before going away.

Okay, so what to pack? Well first of all, consider your child’s day-to-day routine, and this shall form the basis of what you need to pack. For example, nappies, baby food, steriliser, baby clothes, toiletries etc. Whilst this is pretty obvious for parents, the quantity of each you take may not be. It’s always better to be prepared, so pack as much as you can. If you are travelling domestically, this won’t be much of a problem, however if you are travelling abroad, you’ll need to work out how much of each to take; but always pack more than you think.

It’s worth checking with the hotel or tour operator what equipment they will have. This will help lighten your load, as you may not necessarily need to take a high chair for example. If their child provisions are minimal, then consider things like high chairs as well as a cot and bedding. There are excellent travel cribs available which are perfect for when you and your baby are away from your own home. In addition, you’ll need to take a car seat, stroller or a push chair. The latter will be needed even if you are travelling abroad, whilst a car seat probably won’t be, unless you’re looking to hire a car when you arrive at your location.

Always think about safety as well, so be sure to pack baby proofing items such as plug socket covers and corner cushions. Always pack a first aid kit, and make sure it’s fully stocked with the necessities. If you are travelling somewhere hot and sunny, also pack baby suncream and sunblock. It’s so important that your baby is well covered up from the harmful rays, so also take a hat and other protective clothing for them.

Finally, there’s nothing better for a baby to be reconnected with something they love and are familiar with. Going away to a new place can be quite distressing for your baby, so make sure you take along their favourite soft toys, security blanket or games – it’ll be a nice surprise and they’ll love it.

10 tips to help a child with infant colic

Are the days of quiet, peacful infancy gone? If your baby has begun shrieking endlessly, his face turning purple in frustration, rest knowing this tidbit: A series of studies have shown that sometime in the first five months, all newborns experience unsoothable crying jags, which can last two hours . Some infants can cry as long as five hours a day. Some infants may not experience sever colic, some are in the middle, and some cry for hours, says Ronald Barr, M.D., the study author and a professor of pediatrics at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.

Here are 10 tips to try when you baby is endlessly crying:
1 - Change bottles and/or pacifiers - Certain bottles and pacifiers can cause colic. If you suspect this is the case switch out your bottles to proven anti-colic bottles like Dr Browns or Tommee Tippee.
2 - Check for a fever - Use a digital thermometer to check for a fever. Never use an anal thermometer.
3 - Check if they're cold - Touch their legs and arms. If they're cold to touch covers them in a warm blanket or put on pants and a long sleeve shirt
4 - Check if they're hungry - Did you inadvertently miss meal time? Maybe they didn't get enough? A little extra milk shouldn't hurt
5 - Check the diaper - Sometimes it's as simple as a soiled diaper. If the diaper feels heavy, change it!
6 - Is it naptime? - Is baby cranky because they're past their nap time? Some fresh milk and a quiet area is all you'll need to test this tip.
7 - Take him for a walk in the stroller - Sometimes they just need a change of scenery. Take out for a walk in the back yard, around the block or even around the house.
8 - Try a bath - The warm water has a soothing effect that can help stop crying. Often the sound of just running water is soothing enough.
9 - Try all natural remedies - A drink of water can sometimes help.
10 - Try burping - Colic can sometimes be the culprit of the crying. While this may not be the end all cure, gas may be putting painful pressure in the tummy. Try burping to expel those gases.

Perfect Kids Beds For Your Child!

Science has proven that a perfectly maintained sleep cycle is imperative for the growth of a child. We have always seen that sleep lets adults blow some steam off after a hectic day at the office, well it is more important for children because they are naturally undergoing a spurt of development. Researches and surveys have revealed that children who are accustomed to sleeping at regular timings have a greater chance of developing better in both physical and mental forms.

However, that said, affording good furniture in the current economic crunch is something that most dream of. But the economic crunch, whenever it comes, does bring with itself the idea of efficiency and cost cutting. The depression coupled with outcry to stop cutting trees for furniture has led to a newer raw material being introduced in the form of synthetic chip board sheets. Now the sheets do not of course offer the same class or elegance that a mahogany wood offered but they do come in handy for most of the household furniture.

If we just take the example of stocking our child’s bedroom, we can most easily understand that having a bed is imperative for our child’s growth. kids beds nowadays are vital as they help the child sleep through soundly. Now we do not even have the excuse of the financial constraints because kids beds nowadays are being made on a mass scale. This has given air to the corporate competition between the manufacturers which has in turn led to the fact that all the beds pricing strategies are being designed in favor of the consumer.

The most important thing that we have to consider is the fact that we have to get the choice of the bed spot on. For example kids beds are required to be at a height that is not very high so that if a sleeping accident takes place, the child does not get injured. Similarly, we should also consider the fact that the corners of the bed are well rounded and not at all sharp because kids beds do become venue for a jumping competition.

The most important thing to check is, because of the fact that they are now being manufactured industrially, we should always check if the kids beds that we purchase are void of any toxic material used in them. For example lead paint. This would help ensure our child’s health.

Your Baby Can Do It

One of the most amazing things to follow as a new parent is all of the wonderful and incredible things your baby can do at each different age and along developmental milestones. Anyone that is a parent will tell you the time flies by too quickly. It is true that one day they are just learning to roll over and the next, you are chasing them down the hallway trying to recover the pair of shoes they just stole.

Around 3 to 4 months of age, you will notice that your baby can start to become mobile on its own. His or her independence may start to really shine through as they practice rolling from front to back and back to front. It is at this stage that you may turn your back for just a second and return only to find your baby has rolled halfway across the floor. This is also a period where it is important to ensure you do not leave them unattended on the bed or changing table. Rolling along the floor is much different than rolling onto the floor.

Around 9 months to one year of age, your baby can become even more independent as their options for mobility increase. Suddenly, he or she will be crawling and pulling themselves up to stand on all pieces of furniture. If you have not done so already, it is important to ensure your home is baby-proof and anything dangerous is well out of their reach. Crawling babies quickly become cruising babies and are soon walking on their own.

Once advancements in mobility are proceeding at a rapid pace, the next sort of developmental milestones include things like language, communication, and advances in style of play. Between one and two years of age, you will find your baby can start to communicate with you about things they like and, of course, things they don’t like. For many kids, their first word is “no” and reflects what they hear a lot at home. Other kids are taught sign language from an early age and can communicate with family and caregivers even before they are able to form language.

By the time your child is ready to start school, he or she will have advanced through dozens of milestones and be on par with the rest of children his or her age. While there are some periods in which milestones may not be met at exactly the same age for every child, they are usually satisfied within a general period of a few weeks or months. Your baby can change at a pace faster than you can keep up!

Different Kinds of Baby Food for Young Babies

When it comes to babies, it’s very important to understand the different types of foods they should consume. Their development isn’t just about the physical and mental, but also the nutritional aspects. This will help protect their health and safety and can have a huge impact upon their physical and mental growth.

Baby food that you purchase in the supermarket or from specialist food stores will be grouped into age groups or development stage. Each age or development group comes with certain foods that are appropriate. These are as follows:

Birth to Six Months

The first thing to consider when feeding your new born baby is whether to breast feed or use formula. Lots of research has been conducted into the effects of both methods. Many medical and health organisations including the World Health Organization (WHO) recommend breast feeding because it is the best nutritional choice for babies and infants. It can help defend against infections and a number of chronic conditions, as well as prevent allergies.

However, not every single mother will be able to breastfeed and so they will seek alternative methods. Formula milk is an excellent option as this will meet your baby’s nutritional needs. The decision as to whether you breast feed or use formula is based upon your own circumstances, your comfort level and lifestyle as well as any medical conditions you may have. Breastfeeding or formula should be used for the first six months and then longer if the mother and baby are both willing.

Six Months to Nine Months

You don’t have to wait until six months to start feeding your baby solids; you should try after four months. You’ll know if they don’t want to accept the food as they will spit it out, but after a while they will start to swallow the food. It’s important to introduce solids to avoid nutritional deficiencies and to avoid them being reluctant to have solids later on in their development.

The types of foods come as iron-fortified and single-grain infant cereal and can be found in any good supermarket or specialist food store. Each jar or pot of baby food is clearly labelled with the development years so you’ll be able to see if it suitable for your baby to consume. From here you can move onto multi grain cereals.

Nine Months to Twelve Months

Once you have introduced all of the different types of infant cereals and iron-fortified foods, your baby can begin to try more interesting baby food. Start by giving them other grain foods, such as bread or toast. From here you can then move onto fruits and vegetables. It’s probably best to start with vegetables and mild tasting foods, such as carrots. Once they’ve become accustomed to the taste you can then try sweeter and tastier fruits. Always use a small amount first, just to make sure they’re not allergic to what you’ve given them.

Choking is a huge hazard for babies and toddlers. Therefore the food they consume should never be larger in diameter than your little finger. If it is, make sure you cut it up so it’s safer and easier to consume. Once they have been eating fruit and vegetable solids you can then move onto dairy products such as meat and cheese, this can be introduced after six months but it really depends on their development. From nine months onwards you can feed them between 2-4 table spoons of dairy products a day. Introduce cow’s milk after yogurts and cheese and always use whole milk and not the pasteurised kind.

Meats and alternatives can also be introduced after six months. Mashed or strained meat as well as fish can be consumed as 1-3 tbsp per day. After nine months you can introduce diced or minced meat as 3-4 tbsp per day.

How To Remove Urine From A Mattress

Parents usually have dual roles. Many parents feel that they spend the majority of their time cleaning up after their families. They often find themselves picking up toys, washing dishes, and scrubbing floors. Occasionally, they will also find themselves cleaning a mattress as a result of a nighttime accident. When these occur, parents should not be alarmed. These incidents are common, and below are some simple steps to clean up after them.

The first step is to remove bedding and covers from the bed. They should be washed in hot water with a generous amount of laundry soap. Because, they have soaked up the most urine, removing them quickly will minimize the damage to the mattress.

The next step is to use a carpet cleaner on the affected area. Follow the cleaner's directions carefully in order to remove any unsightly yellow blotches that may be left behind.

After using a carpet cleaner, 1/2 cup of fresh baking soda should be applied to the damp area. Then, they area should be sealed off using plastic sheeting and twine. Leave it wrapped for approximately six hours, which will allow the baking soda to absorb the odors.

After the six hours have passed, remove the plastic and use a vacuum cleaner to sweep up the baking soda. There should be no trace of urine, or smell remaining. However, germs can still be present, so it is a good idea to generously spray the mattress with a disinfectant spray such as Lysol. Doing so will kill any bacteria, and leave the mattress a bit fresher and cleaner than it was prior to the accident.

Did You Know Your Baby Can Read?

Did you know that your baby can read? Well, perhaps not yet, but there’s potential! Through the use of a few tried and true techniques, you too can provide your baby with a head start on literature. Though some believe that reading education should wait until after age four, there are a variety of ways to build an interest in literature while encouraging reading enjoyment from birth. Established routines, personal bonding and the nurturing environment are three vital factors in this process.

Development

Teaching techniques evolve alongside a baby’s ability to respond to and recognize certain stimuli. Babies are able to recall visual stimuli for a period of two weeks after they hit the 5 month mark. At the 8 month mark, babies gain the ability to recall oral stimuli for two weeks as well. At 20 months, the skill level of the average baby will grown drastically, and the parent will then be able to include new and exciting methods to help introduce and encourage the child at that time and maybe your baby can read..

Bonding

It’s imperative that you take the baby’s feelings into account while acknowledging the fact that your baby can read now . These steps are vital in the process of helping your baby learn to read. Experts note that the initial impression a baby associates with the reading experience will ultimately play factor in how they feel about reading down the road. Singing and reading to a child while they are cuddled up next to you provides the baby with an loving and warm association with reading. The result is a positive outlook down the road on academic accomplishments and progressive reading.

Environment

Read nursery rhymes and sing lullabies to your child. After four months, your baby will begin to grow an interest in the items that surround them. Most children’s books are generally made from durable materials, like cloth or plastic that can hold up to chewing and abuse. Paper and board books are suitable after the first 6 months. Once the child has reached 9 months, start letting them turn the pages. At this point, the child will show an interest in the story overall, as opposed to just the pictures. By age 18 months, the child will take towards specific books that promote their natural ability to wonder and explore. Be sure to keep these books in a spot where they can be reached and applaud their continued exploration.

Routine

Start with regularly scheduled reading times. Many experts agree that small amount of reading at specified intervals is much more effective and appropriate than a large amount of reading all at once. Designate a period of time each day along with a special place where the reading will take place. Over time, you can extend the amount of time and change the location. By baby’s first year, they’ll be excited and anxious to hear their favorite book read to them over and over again. The more you expose your child to literature, the quicker they’ll be to grab hold on their own.

Birth Announcements – Tips for a Firstborn

If you’ve got a newborn on the way, you are probably feeling both excited and somewhat nervous. This blend of emotions is the strongest for those who are expecting their first baby, which is an experience unlike any other. You might be reading every piece of information you can find on the internet and in pregnancy books, trying to prepare for the unknown. There are a few tips to think about when you are having a new baby that are not merely physical, however. For example, sending out birth announcements is a practice that many people follow, to announce your good news to those who are important in your life.
To get started with the process of sending out birth announcements, you’ll want to think about who you wish to send them to. Another thing to consider is the type of announcement you will send. These are available in a wide variety of different styles, sizes, shapes, and colors, to suit both baby boys and baby girls. If you don’t know the gender of the baby, then you can stick to more neutral color schemes and designs. A simple design can be a good option if you want to include more information, or include photos of the baby.

Think about taking photographs of those first few moments that you have your newborn with you, after the birth. These are not only a touching reminder of what that special moment feels like, but also can be good additions to the birth announcements. This will let those who weren’t able to be there to share in this joyous occasion take part in what is most special in your life. The photographs can then be included in the envelope and sent off to recipients, or they could actually be incorporated into the design of the actual announcement.

Those are just a few things to think about when you are preparing for the birth of a new baby. Birth announcements are just one piece of the puzzle. If this all seems overwhelming at first, it’s important to remember to finish everything one step at a time, working on them in a logical order. Feel free to enlist the help of your partner or other family members, who will most likely be thrilled to be helping you with anything that you may need during this special time in your life. That is part of the reason for sending announcements, to enlist this help.

Not only do these items have practically everything you need for theming and decorations, but the box also has a way of getting you inspired to do more with the party idea that you had in mind.

When you are decorating, make sure to go all out. You can put up banners and decorate, but you can also cut out tissue paper to put over the lights in the house to make the rooms any way you would like. Taking it a step farther, you could use extra lighting inside the house to make it into a haunted house if your child had their birthday on Halloween or liked scary movies. The box would only be the beginning, but you could go the extra mile with just a few additions to the decor.

When you choose the cake and food, make sure that the cake and food items you prepare or buy match the theme. Pirates don't eat pizza, they eat turkey legs and have to eat lots of citrus to stave off scurvy. You want to be as authentic as you can be.

When planning a kids birthday party, make sure you go the extra mile to make sure that everyone has a good time and the party is themed correctly.

Adoption: The Major Decisions You Have To Make

If you are considering adopting a child, you will need to make several decisions. Some of the major choices you will have include whether you have any preferences when it comes to the adoption. Of course, you will need to decide how old you prefer the child to be, whether you want a boy or girl, and whether you want to add more than one to your family. However, there are a few other choices to consider.

The majority of parents seem to want to adopt a newborn baby who is healthy. This is often the easiest route since you will not have to budget for medical bills due to complications that have existed since birth. You also will not necessarily have to miss out on spending time with the baby while he or she is in the hospital. Of course, from an emotional standpoint, this is also the easiest choice because you do not have to deal with the thought of losing the baby to a disease or other health risks, though you should keep in mind that there is always the chance of healthy babies becoming sick. Thus, it is quite common to look for healthy babies to adopt when possible.

Not surprisingly, the waiting list for such children can be quite high, so if you can handle a baby with health problems, you may want to take on this challenge. In fact, some parents specifically request such children, as they may wish to help them get better. Many people find this type of challenge more rewarding than taking the usual route of adopting a healthy kid, as they feel they are coming to the rescue of someone who needs lots of love and care. If you feel ready to take on this task, you will likely find that the adoption process is a bit faster than usual since there are many kids born addicted to drugs, or even just considered to be mentally challenged. If you have a preference for a child with a particular condition, such as one that you have personal experience with, you should let the agency you are working with know.

Though many people first think of adopting an infant from their home country, you may have more success with taking in someone from a different nation. Of course, international adoption has become more popular due to several celebrities making this kind of decision, but there are still several countries that have more children than caregivers available. Therefore, while you might find a long waiting list to adopt someone from a few major countries, some of the lesser-known areas have plenty of kids who need your help. You should talk to your agency if you are considering international adoption.

No matter your preferences, this process can be long and complicated, but it is typically worth your time. Of course, if you have few preferences and are open to many ideas, you will likely be blessed with a child sooner than if you were to be very specific about who you wish to raise.

Consider Baby's Safty When Buying A Crib Bumper

Parents long ago never used anything along baby crib walls when the baby was in their crib. At some point someone came up with the idea that this was not a safe practice, because the baby could get their arm, leg or worse their head stuck between the spindles around the crib.

Someone came up with the idea that bumper guards along all sides of the crib were a safety feature to help prevent the baby from becoming stuck between the spindles. The practice of using bumper guards caught on quickly and was widely used as a safety precaution, until; you guessed it someone deemed this practice unsafe.

Organizations now say there are suffocation or strangulation risks to consider when using bumper guards in cribs, and parents should just skip using them. They say that cribs now have to be manufactured with the spindles set closer together making it impossible for the infant to get an arm, leg or head stuck between them, thus there is no longer a use for the bumper guards.

The reasons that many parents continue to use bumper guards is because they look fashionable with the matching bedding and some have a concern that the infant could bump their head on the crib spindles. Health organizations have had an intense look at these concerns and have found that an infant could not cause themselves any serious injury such as a bump or bruise to the head hard enough to be serious therefore this risk is not present.

A university in St. Louis did a study in regards to the use of bumpers in cribs and found that between 1985 and 2005 there were just over 25 infant deaths related to strangulation or suffocation from the use of bumpers. They also go on to state that about 25 more infants were injured in some manner by the use of these bumpers in cribs, but did not die. Therefore the risk is too high to use bumpers in cribs.

A number of health organizations feel that the infant can become tangled in the bumper guard and suffocate as they would with a pillow over the face. They also feel that the ties can become loose and the infant can easily become entangled with the ties around the neck. Some stitching on bumpers have come loose allowing the ties to become longer increasing strangulation risk.

The theory now is that it is better to use noting at all in the crib because manufactures have fixed the problem and narrowed the spaces between spindles.
